properties connected with the trade loan have been

dormant and possibly, indeed, it may be many years

before an opportunity arises to deal with any of them.

But Holmes, after Stubbs had left, came to the

conclusion, after prolonged research, that it was

legally necessary to call on Stubbs to execute the

Deed personally, owing to the form in which the

original transaction had been made. The necessary

document was, therefore, sent to him in Jamaica, which

didn't please him at all, and it was he who then gave instructions for a Power of Attorney to be prepared

so that he need not be further worried with such

matters. To avoid any similar situation arising was

one of the reasons for incorporating the Treasurer,

but as regards this trade loan business, Lockhart-Smith

is quite clear that it has not been possible to challenge

Holmes' view, and that the alternative to executing this Power of Attorney (as your predecessors have done)

will mean that you may possibly have to be pursued

with papers for some time to come.
